FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Applications:
- Do you accept GMAT/LSAT scores?
- We very much prefer the GRE but are willing to accept GMAT scores. We will not accept LSAT scores.
- What are the average GRE or GPA of admitted students?
- Average GPA is around a 3.4-3.5 and GRE is around 1200-1240, depending on the year.
- How long does it take for you to get my GRE after I take it?
- It can take up to a month for us to get your official GRE scores after you’ve taken the test. Please make sure you have indicated our department as well as Georgia Tech so that we get the scores as quickly as possible.
- What is the estimated cost of attendance?
- Are there classes that I have to take before I can be admitted to your program?
- We do have program requirements in technology, economics and foreign language. However, you can meet those requirements while you are doing the Masters program. Not having those classes does not impact your admissions chances.
- When will I hear something from you?
- We are constantly sending out responses. We will respond to 99% of applicants by April 15. All admitted students have until April 15th to confirm their intent to come to Georgia Tech. If you are admitted after April 1, you will be given an appropriate amount of time to respond.
- I sent my transcript in a month ago and you still don’t show that you have it! What do I do?
- INTA does not handle transcripts. That is all handled through GT Graduate Admissions. Make sure that you have sent the transcripts to the correct location. It is also not a good idea to send transcripts before you have submitted your application online. It will add time in the processing of your application.
- How many students do you enroll?
- We enroll around 35-40 students each Fall for the MS program and 3-5 for the PhD program. We do not have Spring or Summer admissions.
- Where do I send my stuff?
- You should send all information to Graduate Admissions. If you are submitting a writing sample (PhD applicants only), those can be sent via email (pdf format only please) to intainfo@inta.gatech.edu. Check out GT Graduate Admissions’ website on mailing instructions: http://www.gradadmiss.gatech.edu/mailing_instructions.php
- You should make sure to send your GRE scores (from ETS – we will not accept copies of your personal report) to both Georgia Tech AND our department. The Georgia Tech code is R5248. Our department code is 1901.
- What does the Graduate Committee consider when deciding on applications?
- The Graduate Committee looks at all aspects of the application thoroughly. GPA and GRE scores are quite important. However, a well-written personal statement and strong letters of recommendation also really help an application. If you consider yourself weak in one area, the other parts of the application can help overcome that weakness.
- Do you admit part-time students?
- MS: Yes! We have about 20-25% of our students who are part-time students. It is not possible to do our program by only taking night classes, however. We offer some of our core classes in the evening every semester, but electives are rarely available in the evening. Part-time students are not eligible for assistantships.
- PhD: The PhD program is designed to be done on a full-time basis. However, we will consider exceptional applicants for part-time basis. Please note that part-time students are ineligible for fellowships and/or assistantships and will have to self-fund their studies.
Assistantships:
- How many do you award?
- Typically, we award around 5-7 assistantships to incoming MS students. All full-time PhD students are fully funded.
- How are they chosen?
- For MS: All applications submitted by the January 15th deadline are considered for assistantships. Because of the strong competition, only those with high GPAs and GRE scores tend to be offered aid. Additionally, a professor might be looking for someone with a particular skillset that might override the GRE/GPA factors.
- For PhD: All full-time PhD students are given full funding.
